‘For the first time in forever’ students visit the Springer Opera House to see Disney’s ‘FROZEN’
More than 2,200 students from over 25 schools across Georgia and Alabama recently experienced the magic of live theatre at the historic Springer Opera House during a special student performance of Disney’s FROZEN. For many, it was their very first time inside a professional theatre.
Students shared in feedback that they were captivated by the breathtaking technical elements from transformative lighting and immersive snow effects to the awe-inspiring set design that brought Arendelle to life on stage. Elsa’s iconic transformation drew gasps and applause, Olaf’s stage magic delighted younger audiences, and the powerful vocals and performances kept students engaged from start to finish.
‘Seeing a field trip at the Springer Opera House was a magical experience. It was vividly memorable. The talent was beautiful and unique and inspired me to continue to see shows at the Springer. Furthermore, to see the diversity that I saw also made me feel extremely welcomed and made a huge difference for me as an African American girl.’
- Home-Schooled High School Student
The impact went far beyond entertainment. Students spoke enthusiastically about the music, and the precision of the technical design. Many were inspired by seeing professional performers up close in a Q&A and learning that professional performers work through challenges similar to their own. For some students, the experience sparked a new interest in theatre, whether acting, technical design, or simply attending more live performances.
‘This year, our tech crew and costume design students were especially inspired by the creative solutions for Frozen. The talent displayed by the cast and crew challenge us to reach higher and believe for great things in our own theater department.’
- Teacher, Lafayette Christian School
'The students absolutely loved the experience. Many of our students even though they live close never get a chance to experience shows and performances like Springer provides and it’s exciting for them to be able to get to watch and see different possibilities in life. I have students coming to me almost daily asking me if they can join the drama club at the middle school because of them getting to have these experiences.'
- Teacher, Manchester Middle School
‘Thank you for one of the best field trips I've been on with a group of students. This is my 35th year in teaching and it was definitely one of my top two trips!!! My students loved it!’
- Teacher, Lee-Scott Academy
Teachers and parents echoed that sentiment, sharing how meaningful it was to give students access to high-quality theatre, especially for those who might not otherwise have the opportunity. Educators noted increased interest in drama programs, thoughtful discussions about stagecraft, and a renewed excitement for the arts back in the classroom. Just as importantly, students felt welcomed, represented, and inspired by the diversity and talent they saw on stage.
