Stepping into Narnia: ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ at Weathervane Theatre
On 3 December 2025, 220 students from across northern New Hampshire gathered at Weathervane Theatre to experience a bold and imaginative production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Attending groups included Home Schooled students, Gorham School District, White Mountains Regional School District, and Littleton School, creating a lively audience of young people eager to step through the wardrobe door and into the world of Narnia.
Told with remarkable clarity and energy by just two actors, the production showcased the power of storytelling and theatrical craft, proving that imagination can transform even the simplest stage into a vast and magical landscape.
A Story That Sparked Curiosity and Conversation
Teachers immediately noticed the impact the performance had on their students. One teacher from Gorham School District reflected:
‘That was a phenomenal experience for our students. I can't believe two actors were able to tell that story with such clarity and excitement. Our bus ride home was filled with questions, discussions and excitement. Upon return several students inquired about plans to study additional books in the series.’
They continued:
‘In my opinion, this production did what good theatre should do: excite, educate and inspire. We are so lucky to have the Weathervane in our backyard. I will continue to look for funding to be able to expose our kids to as much theatre as possible.’
Seeing Theatre for the First Time
For many of the 220 students, this was their first experience of live theatre and one that left a lasting impression.
‘That was my first play, and it will not be my last. Awesome!’

Others spoke about the excitement of preparing for the visit and meeting the actors:
‘I loved that. I am so glad Kelly and Jorge came to teach us about the show before we came. They are my favorite actors.’

The scale of what the performers achieved amazed students:
‘How did they learn all those lines? Seriously, two actors playing every part. I can't believe we also got to meet them!’

Theatre That Inspires
Across all schools, students left the theatre buzzing with excitement, curiosity and admiration. Conversations continued on the journey home and back in the classroom, demonstrating how theatre and different type of performances, like this two-hander, can deepen learning and spark new interests.
