Sir Tom Stoppard

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Tom Stoppard, the first Honorary Patron of theatre works! He was a generous friend and believed in our mission from the beginning.

When we created our JustGiving page, he was the first person to donate. He also signed copies of his plays for us, which we shared with our earliest supporters. I once told him how much his name helped when we spoke to people about our work. He seemed genuinely moved by that, and his humility in that moment has stayed with me.

His PA, writing after his passing, shared that Tom had always been eager to support theatre works! and was impressed by what we achieved. That means a great deal to us.

His writing has inspired so many, and his encouragement helped us open theatre doors for children who might otherwise never have had the chance to go.

Four years on, theatre works! has sent more than 25,000 children to the theatre. He helped make that possible.
