theatre works! Welcomes Sir Derek Jacobi as Honorary Patron

We are delighted to announce that acclaimed actor Sir Derek Jacobi has become a new Honorary Patron.

From the age of six, Sir Derek knew he wanted to be an actor. At eighteen, he played ‘Hamlet’ at the Edinburgh Festival, a role he would return to throughout his career, including at Elsinore Castle. His performance as ‘Edward II’ at Cambridge marked the beginning of a remarkable professional journey, leading to the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and collaborations with Laurence Olivier at Chichester Festival Theatre and the Royal National Theatre.

Sir Derek Jacobi’s stage work has produced some of the most celebrated performances of our time, including King Lear and Uncle Vanya. His screen career brought international acclaim, notably in I, Claudius, and in films such as The Day of the Jackal and Gladiator.

Knighted in both the UK and Denmark, Sir Derek Jacobi is the recipient of two Olivier Awards, a BAFTA and an Emmy, recognition of a lifetime dedicated to excellence in the performing arts.

We are immensely proud to welcome Sir Derek Jacobi as an Honorary Patron. Much like Sir Derek Jacobi’s early love of the arts, by supporting children and young people from the age of 7, we aim to inspire new ambitions amongst those we support. His extraordinary legacy and enduring commitment to theatre reflect the very heart of our mission at theatre works! and we look forward to this exciting new chapter together.
