Manor Green Primary School: First Theatre Trips & New Ambitions

theatre works! sponsored a trip for 50 students from Manor Green Primary Academy to see The Boy at the Back of the Class at The Lowry Theatre. This joyful play, based on the best-selling novel is described as a celebration of friendship kindness and compassion and for 80% of the students it was their very first time in a theatre.

That first experience is something they won’t forget.

‘I have never been to the theatre before and it was amazing.’

‘Thank you so much for your ticket and I will for sure never forget that amazing moment.’

The production captured imaginations, not just through storytelling, but through the craft behind it.

‘The special effects were impeccable…’

‘After hearing the sound effects… I would like to know more about being a sound/lighting technician.’

For many students, the experience sparked new ambitions and reflections:

‘It inspired me to want to do acting more and do it as a GCSE.’

‘I think more people should go to the theatre because it is amazing and they will have a great time.’

Teachers and parents saw the impact immediately.

‘It was lovely to be able to give this experience to my class… something many of them would never usually get to experience.’

‘My daughter really enjoyed the show… she has now had me sign her up to start theatre.’

These moments: first trips, first inspiration, first steps into creativity are exactly why theatre works! exists, access changes everything.
